Dean Arun Majumdar Highlights Launch of the Center for Fuels of the Future

Dean Arun Majumdar of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability recently spotlighted a major new initiative within Stanford’s energy research landscape: the launch approval of the Center for Fuels of the Future at the Precourt Institute for Energy. The announcement marks an important step in advancing research aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of fuel systems.

The new center will be co-led by Adam Brandt, professor of Energy Science & Engineering, and Naomi Boness, managing director of the Natural Gas Initiative. Together, they will guide a research agenda focused on developing innovative pathways for low-carbon and carbon-free fuels. Their leadership brings deep expertise in energy systems, environmental assessment, and the practical transitions required for decarbonization.

Dean Majumdar’s recognition underscores the growing importance of fuels research within Stanford’s broader sustainability mission. By fostering interdisciplinary work and funding cutting-edge projects, the Center for Fuels of the Future aims to accelerate technological and analytical progress toward a cleaner global energy system.
